Nightfall

As I sit here alone in my room with my dim green lamp as the only source of light, and as I note the outdoor temperature reading of 13.2 degrees Celcius on my Weather Station, I am for a moment stunned by how (seemingly) quickly winter has come and gone. Last year saw me waiting and waiting and waiting for signs of Spring to turn up, for what seemed like an eternity. Now, it's as if I have opened my door to find Spring standing right there in my face... and I barely noticed it had even arrived at all. Soft pink cherry blossoms in full bloom on the trees opposite Royal Albert Hall (yes, Ian, you were right indeed (= ), the light April showers, beds of the loveliest white tulips near St Paul's Cathedral, the heat of the midday sun awakening that familiar-yet-forgotten sensation of warmth on my face. Spring - the welcomed but unexpected visitor... How very quickly time has flown by!

The changing of seasons reminds me of how there is always a chance to begin afresh. Close a chapter, start a chapter, no matter how many cycles it may take. It's a little eerie that at this very point Stevie Wonder sings on my winamp, "Today's not yesterday, and all things have an ending.."

What's my favourite season of the year? None of the four, but the very changing of seasons itself. (=

I really do think that winter this year is shorter (and despite what everyone says, less cold) than last year!
Because seasons come and go,
the prodigal can always come home.
