Cars - means of transportation, or luxury items???
Give this video clip a watch, especially if you are Malaysian and even more so if you own a Kelisa. The following text is an email reply I wrote on the spur of the moment after receiving this clip from a friend. (hence the lack of punctuation, sorry!)
"lol. i have to say, i found these clips more offending and senseless than they were funny... (strange, i never thought i was so 'patriotic'.. hahaha) the dude obviously has something against cars that are made without 'spirit' or 'passion', as if they were made by a corporation wanting to make money, and not one PERSON who wanted to make a great car... but by saying that he's ignoring a huge category of people who own a car as a means of transport, as something necessary, instead of a luxury item or a hobby... if everyone could afford to own a merc or a ferrari then well, yeah, maaaybe what he said was justified.. but the fact is not everyone can, in fact most people can't!! who is he to judge perodua for making cars that are more accessible and more affordable to a greater market of consumers??? even if perodua's intention was to make money, but hey... perodua makes money, less affordable folks can own cars - fair and square if u ask me!!
and besides, that blatant annihilation of a brand new car (though it may just be a humble malaysian-made kelisa) to prove his point was simply uncalled for, if u ask me"
What do you guys think? Was that a fair criticism at all?

I agree that blatant destruction of a car is nothing but wasteful. But to be very very honest- the only reasons why local cars are so cheap relatively is because our government taxes the foreign cars so heavily to protect the local car industry! I have nothing against the local car industry (It provides a humoungous amount of employment opportunities) but I really think they should up the standard especially the crucial safety features of our local cars to protect our own lives!
in a perfect world, the gahmen should disband the local 'car' industry, save the millions of dollars that were poured into their merry-i-wanna-f*ck-up-for-the-umpteenth time circus, therefore being able to lower taxes on foreign cars so that the average msian can be privileged enough to comprehend the true essence of life, which is to experience the thrill and adrenaline rush of not driving pieces of scrap metal around the infamous pot-hole filled roads around the god forsaken land they call Malaysia.

Hello May!
I always thought that I was loyal to our Malaysian car, having patriotically insisted on my hip Wira and not giving a hoodswink to the hip-ER imported ones. (Of course, I wouldn't exchange it with any other car in the world..)
Until..
My colleague / friend (husband of a really good friend) casually mentioned he was thinking of buying a Malaysian car for his expanding family. 1 wife and 2 babies, mind you. I was like "ARE YOU NUTS? You dare trust a Malaysian car with your babies and wife?" At the heat of the moment, it almost sounded as though he wanted to get them killed. LOL.
OOPS. There went my gungho-ness.
There you go.. Reality sometimes supercedes idealism. Or... Idealisms sometimes clash (Family ideals vs patriotic ideals).
Nothing to do with you clip tho, cos i cldnt view it.
"I wonder if you could ever get bored with doing this?" Yep, cause I'm bored watching. The British sense of humor can be a truly dismal thing.
I suppose this guy goes into Sainsburys every Sunday and burns down the bakery section for making such rubbish bread.
Myth-busters is better for blowing things up, and being actually funny =P
It doesn't matter. He blows up cars that he doesn't like. Its not some kinda statement against Malaysia or anything like that. He has blown up loads of French and British cars so no reason to get upset, instead, stand up tall and proud that a Malaysian car has been deemed worthy/unworthy enough to grace tv screens in the UK.
Besides, the Kelisa is not even a "Malaysian" car per se. The engineering is almost entirely Japanese. (Daihatsu for those less well informed). It's as much Malaysian as Coca Cola made in Malaysia is Malaysian despite it being a totally American concoction.
umm.. is that a good analogy? reading it now it sounds abit lame.
it's the very fact that he blows up cars he doesnt like, that bothers me. not just because it was a malaysian one. though of course, i have to admit, if it wasnt a malaysian car i'd be relatively less bothered by it... haha
